About Minerva

Minerva Textile Group was formed in 2011 and had its first exhibition in 2012. The original membership had attended workshops at Craft Arena and has evolved over the past 5 years. Membership is now by invitation.

Exhibitions are held at Gallery 50, Craft Arena in September each year.

This blog will show you how our work has developed over the years, and will feature work from our current, past and up-coming exhibitions.

Hidden Treasures

Our current exhibition at Craft Arena finishes on 14th October, so I thought I'd share pictures with you.

Minerva 2016 are:

Denise Gannon
Wendy Smith
Jackie Snell*
Pam Mansfield
Lisa McNally
Vicky Kimbell

*Jackie has been a much valued member of Minerva over the last few years, but has been unable to contribute to this year's exhibition due to ill health.

Members visited Watt’s Chapel, Compton, Surrey in October 2015 on the recommendation of our friend and fellow textile artist Janetta Sosin. We were absolutely stunned by what we found and the fact that no one we spoke to had heard of this ‘hidden treasure’. This work is based on our visit.

Mixed Media Challenge

The group were provided with the following materials:

· Tyvek

· Lutradur 30

· Bondaweb

· Kitchen Towel

· Gilding Flake

· Angelina

· Transfer Foil

· Chiffon square

· 3 x drink stirrers

· Turquoise thread

We were challenged to use each of the materials and at least ½ square inch (or equivalent sized shape) of the thread. Each of the items had to be used but they did not have to use the full amount provided. For example, they could use one drink stirrer or just some of the Angelina.
